Karl Linder

In one of my previous posts I blogged about my dream of living in a house. Since then Mama has put a down payment on a house in Clybourne Park! Everyone was so excited, I was near tears but then we realized that Clybourne Park is a white community. A first I think that if we move there terrible things would be done to us but I soon begin to feel that I don't care what the white people think of us, I will be living in a house. We soon hear a knock on the door and there is a white man there that claims he is Karl Linder of the "Clybourne Park Improvement Association." We let the fellow in since we are all excited and packing for the big move. He seems very nice and says "that for happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities." that ends it we had enough of what he was saying, Walter got rid of him. I can't believe some people; they think that just because of the color of our skin we aren't nice and are dangerous to live around? We should have pretended that this never happened but we had to tell Mama, she runs this house. What he attempted to do, prevent us from moving into a white community, is wrong and no matter what he does we will move into that house. When I thought I would never see that man again, Walter brings him to our apartment so he can try and get a deal that Clybourne Park will buy back the house from us. He did this because he decided to go behind all of our backs and betray us by giving his money, part of the insurance money that Mama gave him, some of which he was supposed to put away for Benetha for medical school, to Willy to get a deal on the liquor license. Willy wound up running off with our money and now we have nothing. Linder gets all of the papers out to buy the house back when Walter Lee tells him we are not selling the house. He tells Linder that he is proud of himself and his family and who we are. Once again Linder is gone but this time it is for good. We are moving into the new house!
