Since the big
move our lives have changed dramatically. We are enjoying it so much. Travis is
so excited; he no longer has to sleep on the couch in the living room but in bed
in his room. I am so glad he is happy! Walter Lee has become more of a man since
we've lived in the new house, like Mama said "it makes a difference in a
man when he can walk on floors that belong to him..." it truly has
made a difference, he is more calm, relaxed and being more friendly toward
everyone. He is working hard and extra hours to get back the money he lost.
Beneatha has decided to marry Asagai and move to Africa with him to become a
doctor. Although Mama and myself didn't really support this decision we decided
that if Beneatha is happy we are happy and that is what matters most, happiness.
Lena has fallen in love the gardening tools we gave her; whenever I can't
find her in our big house I know where to go. She's planting so many vegetables
I cannot wait to cook with them on the beautiful new stove. This new home has brought us so much happiness. There have been a few incidents with the
neighbors calling the police because they don't feel safe or comfortable. There
has also been a little bit of vandalism to the front lawn that Travis loves to
play but we are working it out now and Walter is fixing it. I love this new house
and I am so excited to be having my baby here, I never want this experience to
end, my dream has come true.

Karl Linder
In one of my previous posts I blogged about my dream of living in a house. Since then Mama has put a down payment on a house in Clybourne Park! Everyone was so excited, I was near tears but then we realized that Clybourne Park is a white community. A first I think that if we move there terrible things would be done to us but I soon begin to feel that I don't care what the white people think of us, I will be living in a house. We soon hear a knock on the door and there is a white man there that claims he is Karl Linder of the "Clybourne Park Improvement Association." We let the fellow in since we are all excited and packing for the big move. He seems very nice and says "that for happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities." that ends it we had enough of what he was saying, Walter got rid of him. I can't believe some people; they think that just because of the color of our skin we aren't nice and are dangerous to live around? We should have pretended that this never happened but we had to tell Mama, she runs this house. What he attempted to do, prevent us from moving into a white community, is wrong and no matter what he does we will move into that house. When I thought I would never see that man again, Walter brings him to our apartment so he can try and get a deal that Clybourne Park will buy back the house from us. He did this because he decided to go behind all of our backs and betray us by giving his money, part of the insurance money that Mama gave him, some of which he was supposed to put away for Benetha for medical school, to Willy to get a deal on the liquor license. Willy wound up running off with our money and now we have nothing. Linder gets all of the papers out to buy the house back when Walter Lee tells him we are not selling the house. He tells Linder that he is proud of himself and his family and who we are. Once again Linder is gone but this time it is for good. We are moving into the new house!

Me and Walter Lee
The man I fell in love with is not the same man today. Walter Lee has changed since the day we said "I do." We used to be able to sit down together and just enjoy each other company with a simple conversation but now I can't even serve him breakfast without him joking around sarcastically because most of the things he says aren't sarcastic. "Who's fighting you? Who even cares about you?" When Walter Lee said that to me it made me furious. I think if Walter Lee doesn't change his ways this relationship won't last. If Mama doesn't say anything to her son and knock some sense into him to get him out of that daze he is in the end of us may be near. He can't get his mind off this ridiculous dream of owning a liquor store; he doesn't understand that it won't happen anytime soon. The fact that he thinks he can get a deal with Bobo and Willy to get the liquor store license amazes me because chances are that the man is white and I know for a fact that no white man will make a deal to help a black man.

The House of my Dreams
I feel like I'm a maid. I live in an apartment that I am thankful for and I feel safe in with my family. The old decor is worn but I try my best to cover it up and make everything look fairly new. It is hard to do since those spots can be seen even without the little light that we obtain from our only little window in the kitchen. If I were to live in a house, life would be a lot easier for me and everyone else and we will be happier. Overall it would be a bigger space so Travis wouldn't have to sleep on the couch. It would also be better for the new baby, considering I decide to have it. Lena would be able to plant her garden and Walter would be happier since he would be the "head of the house." Having a house will make life for the my family a whole lot easier. The furniture would be in good shape and the kitchen, my favorite room, would be bigger and better than the one we have now which is so small it is hard to function in. "Tell her we can still move..." We may have a little trouble affording the house but it is my life long dream and I will do anything to get it.

My Pregnancy
I think that having another child would be something wonderful. Travis will have someone to play with and I would be happy. The only trouble I see that would result down the road is the expenses. I'm instilled with the fear that it may turn out that we can't afford to support another person and I may have to have an abortion. The way Walter acts, as if he doesn't care about me, like I don't even exist, is also giving me thoughts of having it done. I feel that if I do have the baby the relationship between me and Walter will be torn apart and will have an effect on the rest of the family. When I realize that Walter won't be able to handle it I am really thinking that abortion would be the best choice. I think Lena recently said something to Walter that set of a trigger in him to be more considerate of me and to be thankful to have me. I might have this baby after all.
